Smoky Mountain Archers Junior Archery program meets every Thursday evening at 6:30pm. Public *must* be at the gate at 6:30pm to be let into the facility; members will receive a magnetic swipe card allowing them entry at their convenience. We have several NFAA Level I instructors available and one Level II.
The Junior Archery program is open to both public and members and is for ages 18 and under. The only other requirements of the program is that participants can draw a bow back and follow the safety rules of the range. There are as young as 5- and 6-year-old children that have shot, though the younger ones will also require that a parent stay with them full-time while they are shooting.
Equipment is available for beginners - we have both bows and arrows for use. Long-term shooters are strongly encouraged to purchase their own arrows, though it is also normal to purchase your own bow too. Club equipment is on a first come first serve basis and, depending on equipment requirements, may have to be shared amongst students.
There is a public access fee to TWRA of $1.50 for kids under 16 and $5.50 for ages 16 and above. Membership in the club is $20 a year for a junior membership, and there is an optional $20 fee to join NFAA's ASAP program (this program awards patches and includes an instructional booklet also used as a shooting journal). There are family memberships available; pricing varies depending on how many are included in the membership. New targets range from 50 cents to $4, though you are welcome to shoot used targets (if available) for no cost. There are no equipment rental fees or instructor fees. We are also available for boy scout merit badges and other youth archery related events. Call for availability.
